Cheryl Pritlove

Cheryl Pritlove, PhD, is an Investigator at the Applied Health Research Center, Unity Health Toronto, and Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Dr Pritlove is a critical qualitative methodologist and health services researcher with expertise in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). Her work in EDI has been featured in leading journals such as The Lancet, has been policy influencing, and has received international attention, including invited talks at esteemed Summits, healthcare organisations, and podcasts (including the Review of Systems Podcast at Harvard Medical School). Dr Pritlove employs patient-oriented research methodologies in her work on type 1 diabetes, partnering with patients and communities to improve the quality, safety, access and person-centred nature of diabetes care. Grounded in EDI principles, her research invites a diversity of perspectives and aims to advance scientific knowledge on the role of social determinants of health (e.g. sex, gender, age, race, ability) in shaping experiences of living with and managing diabetes. She currently holds several Innovation Grants focused on developing and implementing processes for the more meaningful and equitable engagement of patients in health system governance, driving transformative change in healthcare organisation (design and delivery) in ways that better serve the diverse needs of people living with diabetes.
