F. Susan Wong

Susan Wong

F. Susan Wong (PhD) is Professor of Experimental Diabetes and Metabolism at the School of Medicine, Cardiff University, UK and Honorary Consultant Physician in Diabetes at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. She is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for JDRF UK, Deputy Chair of the Clinical Studies Group I (Pathogenesis of diabetes) of Diabetes UK, and a member of the Type 1 Diabetes UK Consortium management board. She has served on grant review panels of the NIH (Special emphasis Diabetes), MRC, JDRF, Diabetes UK, and Hong Kong Research General Council, and on the editorial board of Current Molecular Medicine and Scientific Reports. Susan trained in medicine, and also obtained her PhD at Kings College London, following which she worked with the late Charles Janeway Jr at Yale University, USA. She returned to the UK, with the award of a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellowship and established her laboratory at Bristol University, and subsequently at Cardiff University, focusing on the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes, and immunotherapy of type 1 diabetes proof of concept studies, as well as supporting clinical trials in type 1 diabetes. She was the Diabetes UK Dorothy Hodgkin award lecturer in 2018.
