Jianping Weng

Professor Jianping Weng, MD, PhD, is the President of Anhui Medical University in China and a Distiguished Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. After completing his PhD research at Sun Yat-sen University, he advanced his academic career as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Lund University in Sweden. Professor Weng is a pioneering advocate for the view that type 2 diabetes is a reversible disease. His research has significantly contributed to our understanding of the all-age epidemiology of type 1 diabetes and has identified HLA risk genes associated with the condition. Additionally, he has investigated the pathogenesis and treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated liver diseases. With over 27,000 citations and an H-index exceeding 66, Professor Weng is a highly regarded figure in his field. He currently holds the position of Member of the Academic Advisory Committee of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Honorary President of the Chinese Diabetes Society.
