Maria Redondo

Maria J Redondo (MD, PhD, MPH) is a Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and a pediatric endocrinologist at Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston, Texas, USA), where she focuses her clinical efforts on pediatric diabetes and is the director of research in the Diabetes & Endocrinology Division. Dr Redondo’s research interests are in pediatric diabetes, the preclinical natural history and prediction of type 1 diabetes, genetics of type 1 diabetes and atypical forms of diabetes, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is a standing member of the NIH National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Human Studies of Diabetes and Obesity Study Section; American Diabetes Association Science and Health Care Council Executive Committee; Diabetes Association Precision Medicine in Diabetes sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and European Association for the Study of Diabetes; and Diabetes Care Editorial Board. Dr Redondo received a Baylor College of Medicine Pediatrics Research Mentoring Award in 2017, Early Career Development Award from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in 2002, Postdoctoral Fellowship Award from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in 2000 and award for Junior Investigators from the Immunology of Diabetes Society in 1998. She earned her medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Madrid, Spain), PhD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Madrid, Spain), and master in public health from the University of Texas School of Public Health (Houston, Texas, USA). She completed her  specialisation in endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition at San Carlos University Hospital, and a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, University of Colorado (Denver, Colorado, USA).
