Sofia Carlsson

Sofia Carlsson (PhD) is an associate professor and senior lecturer at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. She heads a team working on diabetes epidemiology and has 20 years’ experience in this field, having published >100 peer-reviewed papers. Her main research interests are latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), adult-onset type 1 diabetes and early-onset type 2 diabetes, specifically the causes and consequences of these understudied diabetes types. Sofia is the PI of a large multi-centre study on LADA, the ESTRID study, which aims to elucidate the role of genetic and environmental factors in the aetiology of LADA. She has broad knowledge of epidemiological theory and methods through work on a wide range of study designs and applications including twin, genetic, family-based, register-based, Mendelian randomisation, case-control, and longitudinal studies. Sofia also has longstanding experience in teaching epidemiological methods.
