Tim Curtis

Tim Curtis (PhD) is Professor of Vascular Physiology at Queen’s University Belfast. His research focuses on the pathobiology of diabetic retinal disease, with particular emphasis on the retinal neurovascular unit and early mechanisms of dysfunction in diabetes. His work brings together molecular, imaging and translational approaches, including RNA sequencing, advanced retinal imaging and experimental models, to identify novel therapeutic targets. He has a particular interest in lipoxidation and its impact on neurovascular integrity, and his recent studies have explored therapeutic strategies aimed at preserving retinal function and preventing disease progression.

He has extensive experience in international grant review and academic leadership. He has chaired grant panels for the Research Council of Finland and currently contributes to funding panels for Sight Research UK and the NIHR Capital Investment programme. He previously served as Deputy Director of the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, where he led the development of a university-wide advanced imaging and histology core facility.
