Ulrik Pedersen Bjergaard

Ulrik Pedersen-Bjergaard is Clinical Professor with special focus on acute diabetology at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen and Chief Physician at the Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology, Nordsjællands Hospital, Hillerød, Denmark. Following a broad clinical education within general internal medicine he took up research within hypoglycaemia, insulin therapy and diabetes under the supervision of Professor Birger Thorsteinsson. His primary focus has been to seek explanation for individual differences in risk of hypoglycaemia in diabetes. He obtained his DMSc degree at University of Copenhagen in 2009 and is currently heading up a research group exploring this field using a multidisciplinary approach ranging from experimental studies in animal models and humans to epidemiological and interventional research. He has established several clinical research networks and chaired or contributed to national clinical guidelines on type 1 diabetes, acute complications and diabetes technology.
