Laura Corbin

Laura Corbin (PhD) is a Research Fellow in Genetic Epidemiology based in the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol. She graduated with a PhD in Quantitative Genetics from The Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh in 2012. Her current research involves the use of complementary study designs to evaluate the metabolic consequences of adiposity and weight change. Since 2018, she has led work to generate metabolomic and proteomic data from samples collected across a range of studies including two seminal randomised controlled trials, The Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT) and By-Band-Sleeve (BBS), a multi-centre trial of bariatric surgery. She has experience in the application of a range of genetic epidemiology approaches including genome-wide association studies, recall-by-genotype studies, and Mendelian randomisation. She is also an advocate of reproducible science and maintains a keen interest in how data management practices can be improved to ensure research reproducibility.
