Extended articles

Diabetologia now welcomes pre-submission enquiries from authors interested in submitting extended articles to the journal (up to 8000 words in the main text). It is becoming increasingly clear that there is a need for an outlet for metabolic research with a scope greater than that presently possible in the standard article format in Diabetologia. These articles compete for space in top-tier journals with a very broad audience. In many instances, condensing the text to comply with Diabetologia’s current word count makes presentation, understanding, interpretation and discussion of the data difficult. Diabetologia is therefore making space available for extended articles on diabetes and its complications. Instead of slicing data and placing them in a number of publications, this comprehensive way of presenting data will facilitate publication of high-quality metabolic research. As for all articles, the threshold for acceptance will be very high.
